First hospital visit for Logan

Let's see where to begin. On May 5, Logan came home from daycare with a small bug bite on his leg. Little red, no big deal. Thursday, we got a call from daycare that he had a 101 temp, so Justin went to pick him up early. He had some tylenol, the temp went away quick, and he played the rest of the day. Little red around the bite. So on Friday, May 7, Justin was in Valdosta, GA for his cousin Kami's graduation. I went to pick the boys up from daycare and Logan was in Nathan's room with his shirt off. They said he was really warm and had just taken his temp. It was 104. They knew I was on my way, so they didn't call. I looked at his leg and the whole thing was bright red. NOT GOOD! So on the 5 minute drive back to the house I called the doctor's office, and got the after hours line. Had to wait for the doctor on call to call back. So got inside, fed Nathan and Logan was just so warm. He put his head on my lap and feel asleep. A few minutes later the doctor called back. Told her about the leg and temp. She said you need to have it checked and it shouldn't wait until morning. Give him some tylenol and take him to the ER. Oh goodie... let's head to the ER by myself with both boys. Okay... so I called Justin about 2 minutes before the ceremony started. Told him as soon as I finished feeding Nathan I was headed to the hospital per doctor's orders. Just said "I'm on my way." I was told later that his mom was going to come, but by the time she said that to his dad (30 seconds later) and turned around Justin was already at the top of the stairs and heading out the door. So I finished feeding Nathan, got the diaper bag ready with another bottle, snacks and drinks and we piled in the car to head to the ER. I called Justin's great aunt and asked her to come sit with me at the hospital while we waited for Justin (everyone else was at the graduation). So we got there, got triage pretty quickly. He got some more morton. That kicked in and he was playing like he wasn't even sick. Justin got there 2 hours later and was pale as a ghost. About 2 hours after that we finally got called back. Took them a while to get our paperwork filled out. By this time it is already 11:30. Nathan has had his last bottle (still hungry) and Logan has only had cheerios. Justin and I haven't had anything since lunch. Besides the point. The doctor thinks it's an infection and wants to start him on antibiotics while he waits for labs. I have to get Nathan home for more food and bed. So I left, somehow. Justin and I were on the phone on and off. About 3 am I get a call that it is a staph infection and they have to admit Logan for IV antibiotics. No telling how long it will be. So we go from planning to attend a graduation party and have the boys dedicated at church on Sunday to figuring out how to rotate turns at the hospital. Luckily Grammie was able to come stay with me and take care of Nathan. This was Mommy and Daddy could do what we needed for Logan. So Saturday, Nathan went to the graduation party (see below) and Mommy went to the hospital to relieve Daddy.
You never would have known that Logan was sick. He was playing just as hard as he could all day long. We had lots of meds and couldn't leave the room unless Logan wore a mask, and that was not happening. But that is how it goes. Daddy got back late in the afternoon, we figured out if we put Logan's shoes on he would wear the mask. He knew he would get to go somewhere. So we took laps around the floor. Logan and I spent the night at the hospital. I got a little rest before he woke up at 2 am scared and he had to sleep with me on the little bed. I didn't get a lot of rest after that, but I'm not complaining. Doctor came in first thing that morning and said that the leg was already doing a lot better. Since Logan was good about taking meds orally she said after breakfast we could go home. Happy Mother's Day to me! That was a wonderful present. So Logan had breakfast while Mommy packed.
Logan has been such a trooper since then about taking his meds. Everyone kept saying they were horrible tasting. Logan acted like it was the best thing he ever tasted. Go figure. He had his final check up on his leg this afternoon and the doctor was so happy with how it looked.
It was truly a crazy situation, and God took care of us. You never want a trip to the ER to turn into a stay at the hospital. However, I was so happy to be at the Children's Hospital. They were wonderful with Logan. And I even more grateful we were not across the street at the Nemours (extreme special case children's hospital). Looking out that window reminded me of how lucky we really were with the situation. Thank you God for taking us in your loving embrace and getting us through the difficult time. Thank you to all our friends and family for your prayers. They have truly been felt.
